I think people will typically tell you that silicone has more details and is better for photography, while TPE is softer and perhaps more durable, making it better for practical use. Thats not to say that the TPE looks bad though, the TPE looks great too! Feel free to confirm this with others.
JCute is a great brand to start with. Their dolls are fantastic and are very high quality, and their heads are a level above every other brand. They are truely art!
